A Graeae production in association with Soho Theatre and Theatr Iolo. Developed with The Incubator at The Egg, Theatre Royal Bath.

After a successful run at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival this summer, we are now taking Self-Raising on a national tour.

Written by Mike Kenny and Jenny Sealey. Directed by Lee Lyford.

‘It starts with a secret, but this one’s different, this one’s mine.’

Award winning Artistic Director of Graeae, Jenny Sealey has spent a lifetime championing stories by Deaf and disabled artists. Now she takes to the stage to tell her own story. Unravelling the past and facing the future, Self-Raising is a blisteringly honest, laugh-out-loud one-woman show about growing up Deaf in a family with secrets.

All performances are relaxed and creatively integrate British Sign Language, Audio Description and Captions. There will be an Access Table available at every venue, providing additional access resources about the show.

Jenny says: “It is a huge privilege to perform on stage after years of being the director. I am nervous and excited. Thank you to Graeae, Theatr Iolo and Soho Theatre for this opportunity to take the audience on a journey through my story, which is one many can relate to”
