A Graeae production in association with Soho Theatre and Theatr Iolo. Developed with The Incubator at The Egg, Theatre Royal Bath.
After a successful run at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival this summer, we are now taking Self-Raising on a national tour.
Written by Mike Kenny and Jenny Sealey. Directed by Lee Lyford.
‘It starts with a secret, but this one’s different, this one’s mine.’
Award winning Artistic Director of Graeae, Jenny Sealey has spent a lifetime championing stories by Deaf and disabled artists. Now she takes to the stage to tell her own story. Unravelling the past and facing the future, Self-Raising is a blisteringly honest, laugh-out-loud one-woman show about growing up deaf in a family with secrets.
All performances creatively integrate BSL, AD and Captions.
Jenny says: “It is a huge privilege to perform on stage after years of being the director. I am nervous and excited. Thank you to Graeae, Theatr Iolo and Soho Theatre for this opportunity to take the audience on a journey through my story, which is one many can relate to”
