Graeae Young Associate Ayzah Ahmed writes about growing up with Graeae.
Growing up I always had a passion for acting in theatre, but deep down I knew I had to suppress my dream due to the lack of disabled people in theatre and the lack of support for them. That was until I found out about Graeae and everything changed for me, as I was able to see a future for my dream. I joined when I was 14 years old, still in school at the time, so I really didn’t know what to expect. However, to my surprise, I was greeted with a very warm welcome and for the first time in my life, I felt seen and heard as well as asked about my access requirements.
I came home that day very excited and couldn’t stop telling my family about the amazing day I had. As I knew from that day forward, I was going to be a part of a big change for the future.
I’m now grown up and can proudly say we did make a change. Graeae has been a massive part of who I am today. I truly believe that everyone at Graeae is kind and caring in real life and not just so on paper (which is very rare for companies these days) if you ask me.
If you’re disabled and have a love for theatre and acting come join us at Graeae and watch your dream become a reality with like-minded people just like you. I promise you won’t regret it!
