About our Young Company
Graeae runs disabled-led, accessible and vibrant theatre making opportunities through workshops, performances, and future employment.
Graeae provides all access requirements including BSL and SSE interpreters, Access Support Workers, and accessible transport. There are no fees, no auditions, and all projects are led by industry professional Disabled artists.
After distressing news of Access to Work cuts to our artistic director, and many disabled artists who we work with, this comes at a vital time to raise awareness and continue to support our Young Company to build careers in the industry.
We create space for young artists to lead, thrive and flourish, and we want today’s participants to be the organisational leaders of tomorrow.
We are fighting for the visibility of the skills and excellence of our artists community through always incorporating arts activism into our young people’s work as directed by young people themselves.
‘I felt like I belonged in the group on the very first session.’
Campaign Aims:
- Help young disabled people to have equal access to high quality training and support.
- Introduce young people to disabled peers who have built sustainable careers in the arts over many years.
- Nurture aspirations and networks
- We want the opportunities to be a joyous celebration of culture and to be fun. We want to inspire creativity and leadership and be a trusted ally to facilitate our young company’s next independent steps in the arts.
- We want to create the next generation of theatre makers, participants, audiences and artists and tackle the inequality of access that continues to exist.
