As part of Disability History Month, we wanted to mark International Day of Disabled People with a note to our community.

Today we are celebrating. We are celebrating our community of artists, leaders, campaigners, disrupters, innovators, and changers. We are celebrating Disabled joy. We are celebrating the incredible strides the Disability Rights Movement and Disability Arts Movement have made.

Today we are also fighting. We are fighting to scrap the cap on Access to Work. We are fighting for better treatment from our government. We are fighting for the tools and support systems that we need to be able to live the full, happy, and fulfilling lives that we deserve. We are fighting for the government to involve Disable People’s Organisations in major decisions that can and will impact Disabled People’s day to day lives.

Today we are throwing our support behind groups like the Campaign for Disability Justice, Disability Rights UK, Disabled Artists Alliance, and Inclusion London. Today we are lifting up other organisations who champion Disabled artists like CRIPtic Arts, Disability Arts Online, Birds of Paradise, 20 Stories High, Access All Areas, Attitude is Everything, Touretteshero, Square Pegs Arts, Unlimited, and so many more, in their continued creation of accessible strands of art and performance.

Today we want to thank our artists for inspiring us to continue to strive for a better future. Finally, today we want to thank our community, Graeae would not be here nearly 45 years on without you all.
