Graeae's story continues...
Graeae participates in the UK-India Year of Culture programme, presenting Aruna and the Raging Sun. Graeae also collaborates with Talawa, creating Talawa Firsts 2018.
February:
- As a part of the UK-India Year of Culture programme and Re:Imagine India, Graeae presented Aruna and the Raging Sun at Marina Beach in Chennai.
Graeae’s words: “Working with up to 100 disabled and non-disabled performers from Chennai and Spanish company La Fura dels Baus, Aruna and the Raging Sun tells a story of disability, climate change and modern India, using giant puppets, disabled aerial performers 50 metres in the air and large scale projection to draw in crowds of up to 20,000.”

The Iron Man made a special appearance at the Nottingham Puppet Festival.

Talawa Firsts 2018, was a showcase of a new company of theatre makers brought together by Talawa and Graeae. The company was brought together over six weeks of workshops with leading artists from both companies.

Graeae’s Ensemble, a programme which supports young theatre creatives, presented Hurricane Protest Songs which included poetry, movement, and music.
Graeae’s words: Graeae’s Ensemble of young theatre makers performed Hurricane Protest Songs, a breakthrough new production interweaving spoken word poetry, movement, music and storytelling. Incorporating creative use of British Sign Language, captioning and audio description, it asked: What is our future? How can we change the world? Are we really in control of our own destiny?

- Co-commissioned by 14-18 Now and Blesma, The Limbless Veterans and supported by Calouse Gulbenkian Foundation (UK Branch), This Is Not For You, was an outdoor performance paying tribute to wounded veterans from the First World War onward.

Graeae presented The Iron Man free walkabout at Liberty Unbound as part of Mayor’s Disability Arts Festival in London, the performance included an interactive workshop for all attending.

And Others, was a presentation of a collection of rehearsed readings at the National Theatre as part of their Courage Everywhere Festival. The production was to mark the 100th anniversary of (some) women in the UK earning the right to vote.
Graeae’s words: “A new play developed in collaboration with the National Theatre, And Others brings to life the voices and stories of women who have been lost to history, who fought for suffrage but whose stories have been left untold, together with the voices of D/deaf and disabled women living today. Directed by Jenny Sealey and performed by an all-female cast. This is a rehearsed reading as part of the NT’s Courage Everywhere festival. The reading will be BSL interpreted and captioned.”

Presented at Alexandra Palace Theatre, Graeae’s Rollettes performed as part of Horrible Christmas from the Birmingham Stage Company.
Graeae’s words: We meet The Rollettes after they have time travelled back from the year 2025 in a time machine they have borrowed from the cast of Horrible Christmas.
December- January 2019:
- A Naked Production/Graeae Theatre collaboration for BBC Radio 4, Amy Dorrit is a reimagining of Dickens’ Little Dorrit and was dramatized by April de Angelis and Nicola Werenowska.
Graeae’s words: Meet Amy Dorrit, a young woman fighting to get through A Level resits, whilst caring for her disabled father and coping with the demands from a varied group of tenants on the same council estate. When the threat of redevelopment looms large, the tenants start to fight for their homes, and Amy finds herself an unexpected leader and out of her depth.
