Aruna and the Raging Sun

Graeae at Marina Beach, Chennai
Lady Willingdon College Campus, Chennai
Saturday 24 February 2018 8pm | Tickets free
Part of UK/India Year of Culture

Based on the famous Indian legend of Aruna, this large-scale outdoor performance from Graeae, La Fura dels Baus, Prakriti Foundation and partners in Chennai will be one of the largest spectacles that the city has ever seen.

Working with up to 100 disabled and non-disabled performers from Chennai and Spanish company La Fura dels Baus, Aruna and the Raging Sun tells a story of disability, climate change and modern India, using giant puppets, disabled aerial performers 50 metres in the air and large scale projection to draw in crowds of up to 20,000.

Led entirely by D/deaf and disabled artists, Aruna and the Raging Sun will provide a huge cultural platform for the promotion of disability rights.

“There are no limitations here, just glorious liberation, as the performers fly across the sky and the world explodes all around them”

The Guardian,
on Prometheus Awakes (2012)
